Learn how to make our go-to sauce for Mediterranean-inspired meals and beyond: 4-ingredient dill garlic sauce!
One of the main reasons we love it is it’s hummus based — and hummus is an ingredient we almost always have on hand, so it’s quick and easy to make! Plus, it’s the perfect blend of creamy, zesty, and lemony.
We hope you LOVE this sauce! It’s:
Lemony
Garlicky
Versatile
Quick
& Easy to make!
We love to serve it on our Mediterranean Baked Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Broccoli Sweet Potato Salad, Thanksgiving Chickpea Wraps, Easy Vegan Falafel, Ultimate Mediterranean Bowl, and so much more!

4-Ingredient Dill Garlic Sauce
Ingredients
SAUCE
- 1/3 cup hummus (or store-bought)
- 1-2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp dried dill* (or 1 Tbsp fresh minced dill / amount as recipe is written — adjust as needed)
- 3 cloves garlic* (minced)
- ~3 Tbsp water (to thin)
- 1 pinch salt (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your sauce by adding hummus, lemon juice, dill, and garlic to a small mixing bowl, starting with 1 Tbsp (15 ml // or the lesser end of the range if altering batch size) lemon juice. Whisk to combine. Then add only enough water to thin so it’s pourable but still somewhat thick.
- Taste and adjust flavor as needed. Add garlic for more zing, lemon juice for acidity, and dill for a more intense herb flavor. Depending on the hummus you use, you may want to add a pinch of salt.
- Serve with things like crispy chickpeas, salads, wraps, and more (links above)! Will keep covered in the refrigerator up to 5 days (depending on freshness of ingredients used).

Notes
*2-3 tsp fresh minced dill can be subbed per 1 tsp dried dill.
*Recipe as written makes approximately 1/2-2/3 cup dressing.
*Nutrition information is a rough estimate calculated with the lesser amount of lemon juice, without optional salt, and with hummus that contains oil. To reduce fat content, use (or make) an oil-free hummus.

This was great! I made a garlic paste on my mortar and pestle and then just added the rest of the ingredients into that. Super quick, easy and tasty! Thanks!
Fannie says
What is that red seasoning that’s added to the sauce at the end of the video?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Fannie! It’s za’atar!

Love this sauce!! Since I don’t like garlic and I already put garlic in my hummus I just skip it here and it is still amazing.

Who knew that a little extra garlic and dill could make even the most adamant
“Hummus Hater” (my 12 yr old) into a
Dill sauce, dare I say “Worshipper”?!?!
Every one of your recipes that I have tried ALWAYS turns out delicious!
Thanks Dana for all your hard work, so I don’t have to at dinner😉
5 stars

Donna says
Hello! Can you sub Tahini for Hummus?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Donna! The flavor will be somewhat different and might be more bitter, but it could work!

This recipe is delicious and versatile. We leave out the salt (and water), use an oil-free low sodium hummus, and add a bit of paprika and za’atar. It makes for an easy, delicious meal that we can prepare in advance for the week. We prepare it with chickpeas and roasted veggies. Super yummy!

This sauce is amazing. I am so thankful I went ahead and made it. For dinner tonight I made the Easy Vegan Falafel and after making the homemade hummus I was thinking I would just dipped the falafel in the hummus, which I did a few times ;)! I am so glad I made this sauce! Since 7/31/20 I have been avoiding just about every type of food if it isn’t a vegetable, fruit, bean or some nuts/seeds. I cannot have vinegar so salad dressing has been an issue. This will now be a great option for me with salads. It is so yummy and a little water made it the perfect dressing. **I would like to respectfully disagree with the review that stated it was basically hummus, as it is very much NOT hummus.** That is like saying scalloped potatoes and potato soup, are basically mashed potatoes. This may have some of the same ingredients, but it is not hummus. You will be glad you made this sauce!

This is a tasty sauce. I used roasted red pepper hummus as a base. It was the perfect accompaniment drizzled over your zucchini fritters recipe. We gobbled them up.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
That sounds like a wonderful combo! Thanks so much for sharing, Loula!

I love this sauce with the easy vegan falafel, it honestly makes the most perfect, more-ish kebabs

3 of the 4 ingredients are already in hummus. So this is literally just hummus with dill and calling it a garlic dill sauce. Lots of great recipes on here but this one kinda seems like low effort clickbait.
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
So this isn’t hummus. It’s a sauce that’s perfect for Mediterranean-inspired dishes and beyond. It’s been one of our fan favorites! Especially on recipes like this.
Emily Wolfe says
So easy and yummy! I used a little extra fresh dill and my favorite garlic hummus. It turned out really good!

So easy and simple and fresh and tasty. I doubled the fresh dill because the lemon and hummus zing was quite powerful. I also completely forgot to add water, but found the sauce to be a great consistency already (water would have made it runny) maybe because the hummous was a already very smooth. New fridge staple. Great that it’s vegan, too. (Though would go amazingly with baked salmon I think). Thanks!

What is it in the picture? Carrots or sweet potatoes that’s what I want to make with the sauce

Love this recipe!! What is the recipe for the carrots pictured above? And it looks like you’re adding additional spices in the wooden spoon on the picture as well, is that paprika? Thanks!!

This was awesome! I made it for my first time making falafels/pita and tabouli… added it over the falafels in the pita.. mmm.. then for leftovers, after the falafels were gone, i stuffed a pita with the tabouli, baby spinach, feta and Kalamata olives… with this drizzled in with the spinach… So good!!! Hoping there’s more leftover at home to make for one more work lunch tonight! :)
Pat Davis says
I think this would be good with tahini substituted for hummus, too. And I am going to add minced parsley. I love parsley!
Flying Martini says
Did you try this with Tahini?

I made this tonight to go with your vegan falafel recipe and it was fantastic! Thank you so much for such a great recipe! For those that shop at Costco, the organic single serve hummus cups are just a tiny bit under a 1/3 of a cup – perfect for this recipe. This is a keeper!
